Hurricane response is half the work. Scheduled care — pruning, palm maintenance, removal, stump grinding, health inspections — is the other half. Same crew, same standards, same trucks. ISA-certified climbers on every job over 30 feet.
Named-storm activation: 24/7 dispatch, four-person crews running 14-hour shifts, prioritized for existing maintenance customers and life-safety calls (trees on roofs, blocking driveways, on power lines). The week after a storm, every tree company in Tampa Bay is overwhelmed — we hold our pace by not over-promising.
Insurance-direct billing: we work with State Farm, Citizens, USAA, Allstate, Universal, Travelers. Photos and damage assessment to your adjuster within 24 hours of dispatch. The adjuster gets photos before the haul-off so claim documentation is clean.
ISA-spec pruning. Crown thinning to reduce wind load on mature live oaks before hurricane season (best done in May/June). Structural pruning on young trees to set up the canopy correctly for the next thirty years. Deadwood removal. Clearance pruning over rooflines, driveways, walkways, and sightlines.
What we don't do: top trees, lion-tail (strip the inner branches and leave only end-tufts), or remove more than 25% of the canopy in a single visit. Any of those will compromise the tree's structure long-term. If a "tree guy" quotes you topping, that's the tell — they're not arborists.
Sectional removal in tight spaces — over pools, between houses, behind privacy fences, near power lines. We rig each cut, lower it controlled to the ground or to a designated drop zone, then chip or haul. For trees too big or too compromised for sectional, we bring in a crane (we partner with a Brandon-based 50-ton crane operator).
Stump options at quote: leave it, grind it, or full extraction (more expensive but eliminates root damage to nearby hardscape). Debris haul-off included unless you want the wood for firewood — happy to leave it cut and stacked.
Below-grade grinding so you can replant or re-sod the area. Standard depth is 8-12 inches below the soil line — enough that grass roots won't hit anything for years and you can plant another tree nearby without conflict. We grind all visible surface roots out to 4-6 feet from the stump in most cases.
Chip removal options: haul off everything (most common), leave the chips for use as mulch elsewhere on the property, or backfill the hole with the chips and topsoil mix. Most stumps take 30-45 minutes including teardown of the access gate (yes, we put it back).
Palms aren't trees. Different growth pattern, different cuts, different problems. Sabal palms (the Florida state tree) handle hurricane wind beautifully but throw old fronds you need to clear. Royal palms shed enormous fronds that can damage cars. Queen palms get fungal infections that look like brown spots on the trunk and need diagnosis. Date palms produce heavy seed pods that crack driveways when they fall.
We're trained on every palm species commonly planted in Tampa Bay. Annual frond and seed-pod cleanup is the bread-and-butter. Disease assessment when something looks off. Pre-hurricane canopy reduction on large royals before storm season.
Pre-purchase property inspection — buyer's agent flagged the trees. Insurance company requesting tree health documentation after a storm claim. Probate/estate sale needing tree documentation. HOA or municipality requiring an arborist sign-off before tree removal permits. We walk the property, document each significant tree by species and condition, identify rot, root issues, structural problems, lean direction, and produce a written report with priority recommendations.
The signature on our reports is ISA-certified. That's the credential that insurance adjusters, real estate professionals, and Hillsborough/Pinellas tree commissioners actually accept. Anybody can write up a tree report — only ISA arborists can sign one that gets used as documentation.
Storm damage, tree on a structure, or anything that can't wait — call us directly. We'll dispatch the closest crew during business hours and 24/7 during named hurricane events.
